Wolverine - RAARR! by Jon-Wyatt Wolverine - RAARR! by Jon-Wyatt
Finished. Prematurely I might add. I just got tired of trying to draw smoke.
This is Wolverine, all in black biro. I used almost an entire pen for this. I did enjoy it though. On A4 Bristol board. About ten hours!!! I wish it was better for that amount of time.

Smoke is hard in biro, that's a little tip. I tried two methods of shading here. I feel more comfortable with cross hatching in ink but I've read some other guys tips and they've suggested that just shading ever so lightly produces a better effect. I'd probably agree but it's very hard.

Another tip would be not to draw the cage first, the indents that caused made shading much harder.

Thank you. A credit from you is something I treasure.

Can I just say a bigger thank you as well. It was your astounding drawing of the red headed girl that inspired me to try ballpoint art in the first place. My first attempts were terrible but I appreciated the learning curve was steep and kept trying.

I have a long, long way to go to get anywhere close to the beautiful art you produce but each time you show me something new I am awestruck and try even harder.

Keep inspiring us all with what you produce and thanks again.

Don't worry and no problem! Jeez! I used to suck really badly before I got where I am now. For ballpoint pens specifically I remember it took me about 10 years of practice to develop my own shading and cross hatching methods. And I'm not even 30% through with what they can really do.. :) So in a sense were both beginners!

Really nice penwork, Jon! I usually work in that medium and I know the amount of time it takes to get smooth effects and subtle gradients and you did a great job here. It’s just a matter of practice, patience and a lot of wrist control. Keep it up ! =)
